What is Leucorrhoea (White Discharge)?

Leucorrhoea refers to an abnormal vaginal discharge that may be white, yellowish or thick, often accompanied by itching, fatigue or lower back pain. While mild discharge can be physiological, persistent or foul-smelling discharge suggests infection, hormonal imbalance or pelvic inflammation. Diagnosis includes vaginal examination, culture and hormonal evaluation.

Common causes

  • Infections — bacterial, fungal or parasitic (e.g., Candida, Trichomonas)
  • Hormonal disturbances, stress, poor hygiene or nutritional deficiencies
  • Chronic cervicitis or pelvic inflammatory conditions
  • Excessive use of contraceptives or antibiotics altering vaginal flora

Ayurvedic perspective

In Ayurveda, Leucorrhoea is termed Shweta Pradara. It arises primarily from aggravated Kapha dosha and weakness of Yoni sthana (reproductive tissue region), often linked to low digestive fire and Ama (toxins). The therapy aims to strengthen vaginal tissue, balance Kapha, improve metabolism, and enhance uterine health through internal and external treatments.

Safety & Medical Coordination

Persistent white discharge, itching, or pelvic pain needs medical evaluation first to rule out infections or systemic conditions. Ayurvedic therapy supports healing once acute infection is managed, helping restore mucosal health, hormonal balance, and vitality. We coordinate with gynecologists whenever indicated.

Ayurvedic Treatment Approach

  • Assessment: Identify infection type, hormonal pattern, digestion and strength of reproductive tissues.
  • Shamana (pacification): Use internal herbs that reduce Kapha and Ama and strengthen Yoni tissues.
  • Local therapies: Yoni Pichu, Yoni Dhavana, and Uttara Basti for localized healing and cleansing.
  • Systemic support: Therapies like Abhyanga, Swedan and Basti help improve circulation, hormonal harmony, and tissue nourishment.
  • Diet & lifestyle: Light, warm, digestible food; avoid sugar, excess dairy, cold food and stress.
